William Virgil Sims

Companion William Virgil Sims was born December 2, 1931 in the city of Allen, Texas. Attended public schools in Collin County and Dallas County.

He served in the U. S. Army, Field Artillery from 1947 to 1949.

Married Imogene C. Bumpass on April 9, 1949 in Rockwall, Texas. Born out of this union were four children, two boys and two girls, eight grandchildren, three boys and five girls.

The family and all of their friends were saddened by the loss of Imogene, his beloved wife of 42 years, on October 15, 1991.

He was employed by the City of Dallas, Water Department. He advanced through the ranks and at the time of his retirement on January 1, 1987, he was Maintenance Supervisor of the Distribution Division.

He completed course in Chemical Engineering at Texas A. & M. University and was granted a “B” License in water purification from the Texas State Health Department. He was a member of American Water Works Association, Texas Water Works Association and White Rock Water Works Association.

He is a member of the Baptist Church.

Companion Sims was Initiated, Passed and Raised in Bruton Connor Lodge No. 1322, A.F. & A.M. in 1974.

He assisted in the organizing of Aubrey Earl Hope Lodge in 1446 in 1980. He was installed as the Charter Senior Deacon and Progressed through the line and served as Worshipful Master in 1983-84.

He received the Scottish Rite Degrees in 1974, served faithfully on the Dallas Membership Committee and the Registration Committee. He was honored with the Investiture of the Rank and Decoration of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor on November 16, 1991.

He joined Hella Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. in 1974 and was granted a Life Membership for service on the Membership Committee.

He was Exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Dallas Chapter No. 47 in 1976 and served as Most Excellent High Priest in 1982-83. He received the Order of High Priesthood in 1983.

He was Greeted a Royal and Select Master in Dallas Council No. 18 in 1976 and served as T.I.M. in 183-84. He received the Order the Silver Trowel in 1984.

Knighted in Dallas Commandery No. 6 in 1986, served in the line for several years and is now the Senior Warden.

He served as President of the Dallas County York Rite Association in 1986.

M:I: Companion Sims was elected Illustrious Grand Principal Conductor of the Work in December 1989, and was installed as Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Most Illustrious Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Texas on December 3, 1991.
