Was born on July 3, 1888, at Milford, Ellis County, Texas. Was reared at Mertens, in Hill County. Was educated in the public schools and in Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas. Taught in the High Schools of Salado, Texas and Tyler, Texas. Entered the banking business at Irene, Texas, in 1913 and has since served in banks at Frost, Mexia and Teague. President of the First National Bank, Mexia, Texas, since 1955.
Member of the First Methodist Church, Mexia, Texas. Has been a Steward since 1917 and a delegate to the Annual Conference every year since 1936. He is treasurer of his Church.
Served in the U.S. Army in World War I. He was married to Miss Cecilia Stephenson of Irene in 1919 and they are the parents of three children.
Chairman of the Board of Gibbs Memorial Library, Mexia.
Raised a Master Mason in Blooming Grove Lodge No. 497 in 1910. Now affiliated with Springfield Lodge No. 74, Mexia. Received Fifty-Year Service Award from the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1960.
Exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Blooming Grove Chapter No. 235, on September 7, 1910. Now affiliated with Mexia Chapter 131. Served as High Priest of Irene Chapter No. 318 in 1914. Was Grand master of the 1st Veil in 1914. Grand Royal Arch Captain in 1952. Has served on the Finance Committee since 1952. Was District Deputy Grand High Priest twice. Grand Representative to the Grand Chapter of North Dakota near the Grand Chapter of Texas, since 1956. He received the Order of High Priesthood. Received Fifty-Year Service Award from Grand Chapter in 1960.
Greeted a Select Master in Blooming Grove Council No. 171 on September 12, 1910. Now affiliated with Mexia Council No. 77. Was Thrice Illustrious Master of Mexia Council in 1947. Grand Captain of the Guards in 1953. Was elected Grand Principal Conductor of the Work in 1959; and after advancing through the usual stations, was elected and installed Most Illustrious Grand Master on December 5, 1961, and presided at the Annual Assembly in 1962. Grand Representative of the Grand Council of Missouri since 1961. Received Fifty-Year Service Award from Grand Council in 1960.
