Obituary

Leonard Orville Pierce, age 84, left this earth on Friday March 19, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gay Pierce; his daughter Gay Lynn Pierce and her spouse Connie Newkirk; and his No. 1 grandson, Zachary Connor Pierce : his sister Mary Dinklage and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Cornelius and Nora Pierce; his sisters Martha Jane Strouhal, Bernice Houchin, Joan Tiner, and Liddie Moeller; and his brothers Billy Pierce, and Cornelius Matthew (CM) Pierce.

Leonard was born on February 25, 1937 in Glen Flora,Texas, to parents Corneilus Matthew Pierce and Nora Elizabeth Lowrie Pierce. He graduated from The University of Houston in 1971 with a Masters Degree in Education. He worked as a teacher in HISD, where he taught for more than 39 years.

Leonard was a great family man and a loving father. He married Gay Chapin Pierce on August 30, 1958 and had one daughter, Gay Lynn Pierce.

Leonard was a social, active man who was deeply involved in Masonry for over 60 years. He enjoyed participating in the annual drill competition at Grand Commandery for 50 years, working as a founding member of the Texas Knights Templar Education Foundation, and volunteering as a bailiff for Precinct 4. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving and generous person.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Services will follow at 11:30am Wednesday, in the RL Waltrip Venue. The family would like to thank Woodhaven Village and Devotion Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. In lieu of Flowers, a donation can be made to the Texas Knights Templar Education Foundation in Leonard Pierce’s name at 445 Saguaro Dr. Haslet , Texas 76052.
