Very Excellent Companion John Ogden Caruthers Initiated in Cleburne Lodge No. 315, Cleburne, Texas on August 20, 1921, Passed on February 28, 1922, and Raised to a Master Mason in Cleburne Lodge No. 315. He was Suspended for N. P. D. on June 5, 1923. He was Reinstated on October 19, 1923 and Demitted from Cleburne Lodge No. 315 on December 4, 1923. On March 23, 1924 he Affiliated with Blum Lodge No. 607, Blum, Texas. He was elected and served as Senior Deacon in 1925; and Junior Warden in 1926. On June 11, 1927 he went Suspended for N. P. D. on June 11, 1927 Reinstating on July 5, 1945. He was elected and installed as Junior Warden in 1955; and Worshipful Master in 1956. He affiliated Dual with Rosenberg Lodge No. 881, Rosenberg, Texas on August 20, 1947 serving as Chaplain 1960 and Senior Deacon in 1961. He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 108 in 1961.

Exalted on April 6, 1922 as a Royal Arch Mason in Cleburne Chapter No. 100. The Lodge suspended him for non-payment of dues on June 5, 1923. He was reinstated on November 21, 1923. Elected Right Excellent Grand Scribe in 1952 – 1953; Right Excellent Grand King in 1953 – 1954; Right Excellent Deputy Grand High Priest in 1954 – 1955; and Most Excellent Grand High Priest in 1955 -1956. Also, he was the Grand Representative to the Grand Chapter of Canada.

His service as a Director of the Texas Masonic Retirement Center (A. K. A. as the Home for Aged Masons) for 8 years (1961 – 1969).
