Born at Itasca, Hill County, Texas, on February 17, 1891. Was educated in Hill County and has spent his entire life there. Was married on December 11, 1916, to Miss Ethyln Saylors. They had two daughters: Mrs. Jenelle Bodiford and Mrs. Marilyn Worley. Mrs. Underwood passed away on November 2, 1953. He was married on September 27, 1955, to Mrs. Annie Lee Price of Waxahachie, Texas.
His principal occupation is farming, real estate operations. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro.
Raised a Master Mason in Hillsboro Lodge No. 196, A.F.&A.M., on September 8, 1918. Was Worshipful Master in 1937. Was District Deputy Grand Master of the 62nd District in 1941.
Exalted in Hillsboro Chapter No. 152, R.A.M., on February 19, 1925. Was High Priest in 1934. Was District Deputy Grand High Priest of the 19th District in 1935. Grand Captain of the Host in 1938. Member of the Committee on Work 1942-50. Was elected Grand Scribe in 1954. After advancing through the usual stations, he was elected and installed Grand High Priest on December 3, 1957, and presided at the 109th Annual Convocation on December 1-2, 1958. Received the Order of High Priesthood.
Greeted in Hillsboro Council No. 94, R.&S.M., on June 5, 1925. Was Thrice Illustrious Master 1934-35. Was Grand Visitor of the 19th District in 1935. Member of the Committee on Work 1942-50. Was elected Illustrious Grand Principal Conductor of the Work in 1950. After advancing through the usual offices, he served as Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Texas in 1953. Received the Order of the Silver Trowel.
Created in Hillsboro Commandery No. 39, K.T., on March 22, 1940. Was Eminent Commander in 1944. Has served as Chairman of the Masonic Libraries Committee of the Grand Commandery.
